Today in Heritage History, 1942, the Netherlands records its coldest temperature (-19 degrees F / -27.4 degrees C) since 1850. Amsterdam weathermen officially called it “cold enough to freeze the kloots off a geelkoper aap, and colder than a toverheks borst”. Amsterdam authorities issued several public announcements advising local residents to keep their bongs and marijuana hookahs indoors at all times and advised residents of the hazards of smoking marijuana outdoors in such cold temperatures. They warned that smoking from devices with frozen water would adversely impact their highs and possibly cause their lips to stick to bong stems. Amsterdam authorities also warned residents to keep all munchy foods indoors and issued additional warnings about choking hazards from consuming frozen chunks of Haagen-Dazs.

Great use of The Shining pic to along along with your funny-as-hades commentary.
As for low temps: I live in the Nevada desert. You think ‘yeah sure, how cold does it get in Nevada? I watch CSI and there’s never any snow!’
Think north eight hours, close to the capital. Spent two weeks so far this month waking up to 12F temps. Oh yes desert living!
Gigi: Hope you’ll have a blast. Loved Amersterdam-dam-dam
What a coincidence! We’re off to that city on the weekend. Been to lazy to read any travel books but now we have this – thankyou!
Now you something to say when it’s REALLY cold there. Tell them “Today in Heritage History” translated for you
. Thank you for continuing to follow such ill-humor. My best back to you.

Okay.
Thankyou:)
Well, the upside is they can skate on the canals.
BTW, I am from – but not currently living in – Wisconsin. Coldest temperature ever recorded there was on February 4, 1996, Sources: U.S. National Climatic Data Center, and me. I was there and it was pretty freaky.
I’m in Upstate New York (Syracuse). A little further north toward to Canadian border it gets way colder, but it protects them from all the 120″ average snowfall totals we get here. Thank you for reading and commenting. PLEASE keep following. We’re just getting warmed-up…no pun intended.
