Today in Heritage History, March 31, 1870, Texas is the last Confederate state to be readmitted to the Union. It took Texas about 12 attempts, over a six-year period to (finally) pass the G.E.D., which was the Union’s criteria for re-admission.

March 30, 1867- Just Don’t Tell Grandma Palin

Today in Heritage History, March 30, 1867, the U.S. buys Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million. Russia was originally asking $10.5 million for the territory, but agreed to the discounted price if government officials in the U.S. promised to keep the Palin’s and never tell them where Russia “moved to”.
