Today in Heritage History, March 6, 1831, Edgar Allen Poe is involuntarily removed as a cadet at West Point. Poe began to attract negative attention at the Academy after spending hours in his room teaching his pet raven to bugle Taps. He was eventually asked to leave after admitting he was responsible for putting the suggestion in the campus suggestion box detailing how a swinging ax pendulum would be a great idea to “speed-up the cry babies” on the West Point cadet
obstacle course.
Poe WAS removed..mostly due to his mental health issues (bipolar disorder, I believe). Annabelle Lee was after. Hard to smuggle a fourteen year old into West Point, without everybody pissing on the walls to mark-out their territory. (joking).

LOL! Good one! What makes this so good is I can actually imagine that these are things that Poe WOULD do! Thanks!
Poor Poe!
Although Poe was a bit shady and eccentric, he is one of my favorite poets….love his work
Just curious: Was E Poe removed as a cadet? Ooohoh new and amusement. Digging it. Ah, Annabele Lee… Prior to West Point or after?
