Today in Heritage History, May 9, 1908, Dirk Fock becomes governor of the small South American country of Suriname. Still considered by most as a prominent national hero, several important Suriname venues in the capital city of Paramaribo bear his name; The Fock Museum of Evolution (The Fock ME), the Paramaribo Owl and Bird Sanctuary (the Hoota Fock) and the Wellingborough Hotel and Theater, simply referred to by native Surinamians as W.H.A.T.: The Fock.
