History, June 29, 1891, the National Forest Service is launched. Congress pushed to close down the Service the very next year after making its first annual report to a Congressional Oversight Committee. The Committee was distraught over the fact that during the report the Service told Congress that it had determined that a tree did make a noise in the forest even if no one was there to hear it, no matter what Congress said.
