Today in Heritage History, 1674, Fr. Marquette builds the first structure on land that will eventually become Chicago. Fr. Marquette was given a building permitonly after making substantial (voluntary) contributions to the Italian-American Club, Aschotti’s Wholesale Produce, the Hibernian’s, the We-don’t-have-a-county-name-yet Democratic Committee, and the Zoning Enforcement Officer who was one of the original Daly family.
