Today in Heritage History, 1980, Mexico terminates its fishing agreements with the U.S. The move was not political and had absolutely nothing to do at with fears that the U.S. was over-fishing the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. It was only because U.S. fishing vessels kept inadvertently disrupting construction of the fully enclosed underwater 8 lane freeway the Mexican government was building to accommodate drug smuggling into the U.S. As a historical side note, also scheduled for completion in 2013, is the Mexican underwater Six Flags and daycare for “busy-on-the-go” drug trafficking parents looking for somewhere to leave the kids to escape the day-to-day drudgery of working for the cartel.
