Today in Heritage History, 1876, the first free kindergarten opens in the U.S., at Florence, Massachusetts. That same year, the second free kindergarten in the U.S., opened in Lubbock, Texas. The Lubbock District has recently publicized that for the first time ever since opening in 1876, it will be “proudly graduating” everyone in the class. According to school officials, the historic graduation came “just in the nick of time”, before the district found it necessary to build overflow parking to accommodate the large number of Texas kindergartners who currently drive to school. School officials told students that their first class reunion is scheduled to be held at the Lubbock kindergarten on (the) 23-fingers day, of (the) three- fingers month, in (the) 2,013-fingers year.
