Today in Heritage History, 1945, Grand Rapids, Michigan, becomes the first U.S. city to fluoridate it’s drinking water. The decision was made unanimously by the City Council after members reported a joke they heard that had been circulating around the country. It asked, “What do have when you get 32 people together in Grand Rapids”? The answer (of course) was: “A full set of teeth”.
