Today in Heritage History, 1790, the first lifeboat is tested at sea by its inventor, Henry Greathead. Ten of Mr. Greatheads ex-wives and fifteen of his competitors who all unwittingly agreed to volunteer for his first trial, drowned during the test. Shortly after the drownings, Today in Heritage History, Mr. Greathead invents the “Oops-I-must-have-had-a-senior-moment” alibi.
