Today in Heritage History, 1651, the Flemish Catholic missionary Joris van Geel departs for the Congo to “share eternal salvation with all of my loving brothers and sisters in Africa”. Using information Geel shared with them about the Catholic faith during their (brief) encounter, Tomorrow in Heritage History, the Congolese cannibals that discovered Geel in the  jungle, invent the first “Church-style” pot-luck supper (with Geel as the main “dish”), followed by a fun-filled evening of BINGO. Historical accounts reported that they were “very excited” to be playing for the Grand Prize of Geel’s shiny, new St. Christopher medal.
