Today in Heritage History, March 14, 1812, the first Russian settlement in California is established at Russian River.  Quick to assimilate into California culture, Russian entrepreneurs immediately started building fast-food restaurants all over downtown Russian River. Jack-in-the-Borscht and Comrade Sanderinski’s KFG’s (Kentucky Fried Goats) sprang-up everywhere virtually overnight. The small town also quickly established itself as the California mecca of Russo-California-style music becoming home to the Siberian Beach Boys* of My Little Luge Coupe, Kazakhstan Girls, and Mushin’ U.S.A. fame.
