Today in Heritage History, April 20, 1902, Marie and Pierre Curie isolate the radioactive element radium. Although the discovery was celebrated throughout the early twentieth century scientific community, it eventually led to the end of the Curie’s marriage. Shortly after their discovery their twenty year marriage ended when Marie whimsically decided to share her glow-in-the-dark body parts with her long time two-headed lab assistant, for reasons only Marie knew.
