Today in Heritage History, April 29, 1913, Gideon Sundback, an American electrical engineer patents the first zipper. Mr. Sundback abandoned his original design for an electric zipper in 1911, after a near fatal accident while drunk in a local pub restroom testing his new design. It took Sunback two years to recover from the accident, that also resulted in the loss of his marriage, to go back to the “drawing board” to re-design a new “non” electric version.
