Today in Heritage History, May 11, 1752, the first fire insurance policy is issued in Philadelphia. Oddly, but only for a short time the first policy did cover the insured for fires of any kind and did not have policy exclusions for; big fires, little fires, red fires, yellow fires, blue fires, fires exacerbated by a north or south wind, fires set by lightning, people, cigarettes, marijuana smokers, smart pets, or matches.
