Today in Heritage History, 1956, Abigail Van Buren’s column Dear Abby first appeared in a handful of newspapers across America. Abby’s first letter asking for advice came from a young school boy in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, having troubles with his classmates. The young man said that his problem was. “my classmates are constantly making fun of me, telling me I look like a pudgy, little Peanuts cartoon character, that I have an over-inflated, grandiose sense of myself, have a distorted and twisted sense of social reality, am a secret racist, a hypocrite and a megalomaniac”.
